Imagine being your students. They need to remember every language arts concept they’ve learned and accurately put it all into practice in reading comprehension and writing composition. No small feat!

To make matters even more challenging, many students do not understand that learning all the essential language arts skills takes time, decades actually. So how do you help students tolerate the learning process and engage them as they struggle to juggle many abilities at once? You teach them how to organize, track, and apply all their new learning by giving them a second brain — the LA Binder!

The LA Binder provides support for every student as they master literacy. It transforms learning from memorizing rules to a means for integrating knowledge. It is essential for students who struggle with working memory challenges, attention deficits, word retrieval weakness, or other learning difficulties.

Through the LA Binder educator class, you will:

  • Learn to make new concepts sticky by engaging students as they build reference pages
  • Visually demonstrate that all areas of language arts are essential and interrelated
  • Honor the learning principle that complex abilities are mastered over time
  • Foster responsible students who develop ownership and independence in their learning
  • Create your own educator resource tool for ongoing reference as you teach
  • Use this tracking tool to monitor what you teach and what your students know
  • Gain an understanding of Rooted in Language teaching principles and methods

Your students will:

  • Create their own reference guide for all the rules, patterns, and concepts learned
  • Engage in metacognitive discussions as they manage big ideas
  • Learn a form of note taking and how to organize information
  • Develop responsibility, independence, and ownership for their learning
  • Have visual reminders for concepts that are not automatic
  • Understand that deep learning takes time and practice

The LA Binder may start small, but it is powerful! And personal. Personal to each student and their needs. Watch your students’ Binders grow along with their literacy growth.

With the LA Binder Educator Class, you will empower students as life-long learners who experience confidence and success!

All Rooted in Language products incorporate research-based methods to support students with dyslexia, dysgraphia, developmental language disorders, and other literacy-based struggles.

All students benefit from building their own reference pages and from learning to use the reference document they create. This class guides you in the best means to have students create their own resource tool, and explains how to use it to aid student learning, memory, and retrieval. The strategies can be applied in any subject area.

###

What age and skill level do the strategies in this class support?

The content is useful for teaching any student at any age or skill level, including students with dyslexia, dysgraphia, and developmental language delays. ###

Rather than watch the entire class upfront, can I use the material right away?

This class is presented in a make & take format, meaning you build your own educator LA Binder as you complete the class. You can immediately apply your new knowledge as you teach concepts to your students, having them create their own Binder pages as you go. What are Rooted in Language educator training classes and why do I need them?

All language arts studies rely on complex underlying language skills. Success in reading and writing requires explicit teaching strategies that cross these intertwined skill areas. In our educator training classes, we teach you methods that are effective, research-based, and supportive of all students, especially those with learning difficulties.

We provide and demonstrate deep learning strategies for the specified content area in each of our classes, so you know what to teach and how to teach it, across all age and learning levels.

###

Do you offer a Certificate of Completion for continuing education?

Yes. After finishing the class, please contact us to request a Certificate of Completion. Rooted in Language will, in turn, deliver a downloadable Certificate of Completion to you within 5 business days. Your Certificate can be submitted for CEU’s; however, acceptance is subject to each governing body’s rules and approval.

I am only an hour into the class but I’ve already learned so much! It is fun seeing the personalities of the creators of Rooted in Language. I already have a bit of background on the LA Binder having taught a few levels of Pinwheels, and I had already incorporated it in my older kids’ language arts, but I am excited to expand our use of this tool!

It is easier to find answers in your binder than in your actual brain sometimes!

I have found this class [to be] an amazing overview of the entire RiL universe! I definitely think this class would be a great “get your feet wet” first step.

Since digging into Rooted in Language resources and classes my son is already making huge strides in his confidence in the area of LA. He LOVED making his very own LA binder and is literally asking every day to do copywork. Thank you for all you do!

The LA Binder class is a good one to start with if you are considering taking a course. It’s not as expensive but gives a good overview of the RIL approach. There is more to the LA Binder than appears at first glance, so for me this was time and money well spent. The sudden realization that you really understood my son’s struggles even though you haven’t met him and how this was a brilliant way to help him with his working memory, etc.
